Single-stage paint
An older scheme where pigment and gloss are in one layer, with no separate clear coat. Common on legacy piston and turboprop aircraft. Polishing removes pigment along with oxidation, so color transfers to the pad.

Why it matters
Single-stage needs a different approach from clear coat and far less aggression. Color on the pad is the warning sign.
