Exhaust staining
Soot and unburned hydrocarbon deposits that accumulate on the fuselage aft of engine exhausts, most visibly on turboprops and older turbofans. The deposit is acidic and bonds to the finish over time.
What it means

Why it matters
Left in place it etches the clear coat. Removed regularly it is a wash item; removed annually it becomes a correction job.
