What it means

The Southeast spring period when tree pollen — principally pine, oak and birch — coats exposed surfaces. In Metro Atlanta it runs late February to May and peaks between mid-March and early April.

Why it matters

Pine pollen is visible, acidic in combination with moisture, and relentless. Aircraft parked outside need a different wash interval for roughly six weeks a year.
