Veneer
A thin layer of real wood bonded to a substrate and finished with a catalysed lacquer, used for cabin tables, sidewalls and cabinetry. The wood is decorative; the lacquer is what is actually being cleaned and protected.

Why it matters
Solvent-bearing products and aggressive pads cut through cabin lacquer quickly. Once the lacquer is breached, the repair is a shop job.
