Pitot tube

A forward-facing probe that measures impact air pressure for airspeed indication. Like static ports, pitot tubes are masked before any wet work and are frequently heated, so they are also a burn hazard.

What it means

A forward-facing probe that measures impact air pressure for airspeed indication. Like static ports, pitot tubes are masked before any wet work and are frequently heated, so they are also a burn hazard.

Why it matters

A blocked or damaged pitot is an airworthiness item. Protection before washing is a standard precaution, not a courtesy.
